The Unit-Unknown Soldier

Well if this was the way the Unit is going to go out forever then the show at least went out with a bang (or without a bang thanks to the Unit stopping the nuclear bombs).  We saw the Unit take down three dummy nukes as well as one live one.  We saw one Unit member get married while another Unit member's marriage is hanging on by a thread. We got to see Jonas Blaine once again dress down Colonel Ryan and it appeared at the end that Ryan was getting promoted (hopefully out of the Unit).  As I've said on the blog in the past, this hasn't been the best season of the Unit, but it's still The Unit and that's good enough for me.  The Unit could use another season to tie up some loose storylines (The President of Venezuela being behind the attack, Jonas and Molly's marriage, Redcap and Whiplash and how they work together after the incident, and whether Colonel Tom Ryan in fact leaves the Unit).  I'd love to see another season, but it appears to be a longshot for a CBS renewal.  CBS's treatment of the Unit this season has been shoddy at best.  They switched the show's timeslot without even a mention.  It's been cut back by football, there have been several hiatuses thanks to Sunday night movies, and there was little to no promotion of the show.  CBS owes Shawn Ryan, David Mamet, and the cast and crew of the Unit the chance to say a proper goodbye.  I'd love to see it come back and air either before or after Jon Cassar's new drama Washington Field, and for God's sake, put it on a week night.  No matter what happens, I'll still follow the cast of the Unit to whatever new endeavors they take on.  Dennis Haysbert's roles on both 24 and the Unit have cemented his place as one of my favorite actors.  If this is in fact the last episode of the Unit, then I have but one thing to say to David Mamet, Shawn Ryan, and the cast and crew of the Unit: Thank you for one of the best shows on television !!!  You will all be missed.
