Catching up on some TV (30 Rock, Grey's, Southland and Scrubs)

30 Rock this past week was excellent as always. Alan Alda was fantastic as Jack's real father.  I hope we get to see him more in next week's show and get to see Jack's mother and Alan Alda's character on screen as well.  The whole Tracy having an illegitimate son was fantastic as well.  I'm not sure if next week is the finale, but it's been another good season on 30 Rock and I look forward to the fall when we get more new Jack and Liz stories.

Grey's this week hit me more on a personal note than any show has in a while. When I was 19, I had a brain tumor as well, and except for the grace of God, I might have been in the same shape that Izzie is now.  This was the best episode of Grey's in a long time and kept me interested throughout.  I'm not sure what's going to happen to Izzie.  I'd say that most signs point to her death this week, but I'm not sure.  Shonda Rimes has called the season finale a "game changer", so we'll just have to see what happens.  I'll offer no predictions, but I'm sure it will be a great finale.

Southland's episode Thursday night was nothing short of horrid.  The advancement the writers made in the 2 to 3 episodes previous to this one was ruined by Thursday night's episode.  There was too much jumping around and too little of the two main patrol officers' stories again.  Looking at the Nielsen ratings, it appears that Thursday's episode was the lowest rated for Southland yet.  At best guess, I'd say this show makes it 1 to 2 episodes in the fall season and it will be cancelled.  I'm going to keep watching it, but I'm a little skeptical about it being around much longer than the first two weeks of the new fall season.

I watched the season/series finale for Scrubs and it was a fitting wrapup for the show.  I really reconnected with Scrubs this year since it's on one of the nights that I work so I could watch it.  I loved JD walking thru the hall and seeing all the characters he'd reacted with in the past as well as the "future" sequence where we saw he and Elliot get married, have kids, have those same kids get engaged to one another, and see him yet again try and hug Dr. Cox.  It was a fitting finale for the show, but truthfully, I wouldn't mind seeing another season of Scrubs.  I really need to get all the DVDs and go back and watch the show from the beginning because I missed quite a bit of story.
