24 Season 7 Season Finale Review and Wrapup (warning spoilers)

First of all a huge thanks to Jon Cassar and Joseph Hodges for their work on 24 since the beginning.  I'm sure Season 8 will take a bit of a hit in both the production design and the direction of the show due to the loss of Mr. Cassar and Mr. Hodges.  Joseph Hodges hasn't mentioned where he's headed yet while Jon Cassar will be working on a few ABC shows unless Washington Field gets picked up (it hasn't been yet, but I'm holding out hope that no news is good news).

In Memorium for 24 Season 7

Bill Buchanan- My favorite character from all the seasons of 24 and he' was missed in the last half of season 7 and will be missed in Season 8.  Short of Jack Bauer, there was no leader at CTU that came close to Bill Buchanan.  Bill wasn't afraid to give Jack a long leash and wasn't afraid to do what needed to be done to remedy the situation at hand.  My favorite Bill Buchanan scenes were the ones with Chloe in Season 6 when he left CTU and worked to help Jack from home.  He knew he would get into hot water, but the mission and his friends always came first.  When I saw Bill give his life for the President and for the hostages in the White House, it saddened me, but that was the way that Bill should have gone out.  James Morrison is such an amazing actor and I plan on trying my best to watch whatever show James Morrison lands on next.

Larry Moss- Admittedly, I didn't care much for Larry or his character for much of Season 7 which I'm sure was the writers' plan all along.  When Larry finally came around to Jack's way of thinking, he was rewarded with several shotgun blasts and being strangled by Tony Almaieda.

Jonas Hodges-The best foe that Jack Bauer has faced yet.  Jon Voight brought such character to the role of Jonas Hodges and made him one of the most interesting villains in TV History, and I'm sure that I wasn't the only 24 fan that was saddened to see Hodges check out thanks to a car bomb.  I'd have loved to have seen him be part of the last two hours of Season 7.

Finale Wrapup
Kim pretty much turns into Jack Bauer Jr and gets key evidence to help Renee find Jack.  For all the people who bitched and moaned about having to save Kim again, it was good to see that Kim not only saved herself, but helped get her father out of danger for once.  We find out that the reason Tony went bad was due to trying to infiltrate Alan Wilson's organization.  We also found out that Michelle was pregnant with Tony's son when she was killed.  I knew Logan would somehow come back into the mix with Tony since we find out that Alan Wilson was behind the Palmer Assassination as well as Michelle's death.

We finally got to see Jack kill someone again and his wrath was felt by the doctors who were examining how much of the pathogen was left in his body.  When I saw those scalpels sitting on the table, I just knew they'd come into play,  The scene between Jack and Renee was touching to say the least and I feel that Jack made his point about saving people at any cost with the bus example.  It was almost poetic to see Renee turn off the camera and lock Janice up before she went into to question Alan Wilson.  The character who began the season abhorring everything Jack did to get answers, turning into him at the end.  I'm so glad that Renee is going to be back for Season 8.  The episode ended with a touching discussion between the Muslim priest and Jack Bauer about forgiveness and repenting.  I love that the writers of 24 introduced a bit of spirituality into Jack's character this year.  The episode ends with Jack being placed into a coma to stop his pain and Kim running in at the last second to offer herself up for the Stem Cell Treatment.  An OR is immediately cleared and hopefully the healing process has begun  (There was no silent clock thank God)

It was good to see Ethan again and it was even sweeter that he took down the First Bitch Olivia.  I knew while watching that somehow he'd switched the data cards, I just wasn't sure how.  Aaron Pierce yet again saves the day (hoping he comes back for Season 8 as well. I'm sure he will, but I just want to know for sure.).  It appears that going into Season 8, President Taylor will become cold and ruthless due to the loss of her son, daughter, and more than likely, her husband as well.  I'm hopeful that Ethan makes a return in Season 8 as well.

And for the first time in 24 History, we have a "true" cliffhanger.  Will Jack be ok in Season 8?  Will Alan Wilson break?  Where is Tony? I'll post my early thoughts on 24 Season 8 later.  With the story lines that are already setup, it should be another great season.
