So yesterday morning, Lode Runner was released at 800 points. Many folks (myself included) were pleased thinking that Microsoft had abandoned the old price of 1200 points. (for my European friends, 800=$10, 1200=$15) Several folks got it at this price and then Microsoft went head first into another PR nightmare by saying it was a pricing mistake and raising the price back to 1200 points, resulting in backlash on both Major Nelson's site as well as the XBOX Forums. I planned on buying it at 800 points when I got home from work, but at that point, it was 1200 points again. Microsoft has grown quite used to PR controversy though, with the Red Ring, E74, and the coffin fiasco. I've never seen a company mishandle it's customers quite as much as Microsoft has with the XBOX360.
I guess the question for me is, does this really surprise anyone? Microsoft has been overcharging for XBLA games for quite a while now and frankly,it's amazing to me that in these economic times, Microsoft raises prices and tries to fuck it's users with a $15 charge for a 26 year old game. I didn't pay $15 for any previous version of Lode Runner that I've ever bought, and I won't start with this one. I plan on boycotting XBLA and would encourage anyone who's tired of the high prices to do the same. Consumers need to speak with their wallets in addition to their voices. Let's send Microsoft a message.
digg me!!
