I promised I'd go in depth on my ballot a bit more so here it is.
My vote for President of the United States went to Bob Barr. Was it a waste of a vote? To some people it might have been, but to me, I voted for the party that best exemplifies what I want to see from government. I'd love to see less government and less government intervention into everyday issues (the market, marriage, religion, etc) and the Libertarian party suits my taste for less government. I really sat down and thought about my choice for president. I thought alot about Obama and I thought alot about McCain and decided that I really couldn't vote for the lesser of two evils at least in my mind. Both of them voted for the bailout bill and both are bordering on Socialism with this bill and passing wealth around from Americans who make more money to those who make less. I just really don't get this whole concept. Why should American's who have made it in a sense have to pass down part of their wealth to those who haven't made it? I'm strictly middle class and bust my ass at my job and ask for handouts from no one.
As many of you have noticed on this blog, I feel that our entire political system is in shambles thanks to Democrats and Republicans. They've pandered to the lowest common denominator for years and accepted campaign contributions from organizations like the mortgage companies and big oil companies, so therefore it's in their best interest to take care of their contributors instead of the people who sent them to Washington. There are notable exceptions of course, but there are far too few exceptions to the rule. Heck, they won't even let third party candidates in on their debates. That's why I've voted Libertarian in the last two elections and will continue to do so .
I voted for Daniel Lewis for US Senate. He's the Libertarian Candidate for Tennessee. He's not a well known name, but he stands for the same priniciples that I stand for. I simply could not vote for Lamar Alexander after he voted for the bailout bill. I've never had a problem with him in the past, but I do have a problem with him now. I will vote against him from now on.
I voted for Jimmy Duncan for Congress. Jimmy's been an amazing represenative for years much in the same way his father was as well. He's a Republican, but is as un-republican as they come. He voted against the Bailout bill both times, as well as the surge and the Iraq War (I believe). I'll vote for Jimmy till he can't run anymore and then I'll vote for his son as well.
Well there you have it, a small explanation of sorts on my ballot.
